Michelle Penn's Tour Survivial Tactics

Saturday, May 16, 2009

Becoming a Ful music artist has me thinking about some of my past tours and the inherent challenges of going on the road. In my last post, I briefly mentioned how great it is to have easily-identifiable luggage. I may have been stating the obvious, but my tour manager always seemed to have the hardest time grabbing the right bags off the carousel. After the first two cities, I got so fed up chasing stray luggage that I bought a "Scooby Doo Mystery Machine" child's roller bag right there in the airport. I crammed in whatever important gear would fit and dragged it around like an oxygen tank -- crucial to my survival. Imagine the professionalism of showing up to your gig towing a piece of children's luggage. I didn't care. It was peace of mind. In fact, most of my photos and videos from this tour feature the good old trusty Mystery Machine right there behind me. It became a quick joke on the road -- there's recording artist Michelle Penn, accompanied by the famous and incomparable Scooby Doo.

Now that I've signed on with Ful, Scooby has been retired in favor of the "Fast Forward." It has all the space I need and great compartmentalization for my gear. My next two gigs are in Venice (California) and Hollywood , respectively, and Ful will be right there with me!
